GKF ITINENARY 2016



Ganga Kayak Festival

Organized by “The Adventure Sports Society”

Location: Rishikesh (River Ganga), Uttarakhand, India
Pre-race registration: 8 - 9:30 am (Feb 17th) at HRR camp Shivpuri
Raft Race briefing: 10 am (mandatory for all rafting teams)
Opening ceremony: Feb 17th at 11 am by Mr. Subodh Uniyal Ji (MLA Narendra Nagar)
Prize Ceremony: Feb 19th at 3:30 pm by Mr. Dinesh Dhanai Ji (Tourism Minister, Uttarakhand)


International Rafting Championship

Category - Open
Entry fees: Rs. 3000/team
Feb 17th at 11:30 am - Mass Down River Marathon (16 km)
There will be a mass start from Shivpuri (HRR camp) to NIM beach and the top 15 teams will qualify for the super finals).

Feb 19th at 9:30 am- The super finals (top 15 teams) will be another mass start from Shivpuri to below Golf Course rapid.


Rules for the raft race:

• Team of 6 people/raft
• All rafts should be only 16’ long
• All participants should be 18 year or older
• All participants should be a good whitewater swimmer
• No paddle or body contact during the race will be allowed


Kayaking

Pro category: Men and women (need minimum 4 women in order to run
Entry fees: Rs 2000/person (all 5 events)
• Down River Race (sprint)
• Giant Slalom
• Boater Cross
• Best Indian Paddler
• Mass boater Cross (open to all)

Intermediate & junior category (men & women): Need minimum 4 participants for each category in order to run this category.

Entry fees: Rs 500/-
• Down river race (sprint) 
• Boater cross (Only top 4 finalists)


Descriptions

Sprint (Pro’s): Starts from above the golf course rapid on the river left with a seal launch off the 6 mtr high ramp. There will be a compulsory boof on the top center and touch me banner with hand on the river right. To finish the race, the athlete must touch the finish banner with their hand on the rock in the left eddy below golf course. Each athlete completes 2 laps with the fastest lap time counting.


Giant Slalom (Pro’s): Starts from above the golf course rapid on the river left with a seal launch off the 6mtr high ramp. There will be several downstream & upstream gates on both side of the river. To finish the race, the athlete must touch the finish banner on the rock in the left eddy below golf course. Each athlete gets only 1 lap each.


Boater cross (Pro’s):
The top 32 athletes from the Sprint and Giant slalom events (combined results) will qualify for the pro’s Boater Cross. There will be heats of 4 kayakers. Starts from the seal launch off the 6mtr high ramp.

The racer will charge down to the touch me banner with hand on the river right. To finish the race, the athlete must touch the finish banner on the rock in the left eddy below golf course. The top 2 from each heat will move onto the next round and so on. The top 4 athletes will qualify for the Super Final round and battle for the Boater Cross title.


Best Indian paddler of the year award:
Top 4 overall Indian athletes will qualify for this category based on a combined ranking from the Sprint, Giant slalom and Boater cross and will battle for the honor.

1. When the start signal fires the athletes will swim from river right above golf course to river left and get in their kayak on the ramp and sprint down to the finish line (same race course as sprint).

Intermediate/Beginners (Open Category): Starts from above the golf course rapid on the river left with a seal launch off the 6mtr high ramp. To finish the race, the athlete must touch the banner on the rock in the left eddy below golf course. Each athlete completes 2 laps with the fastest lap time counting. The fastest 16 athletes will qualify for the boater cross super final. Boater cross super final will start with the seal launch from the 6mtr high ramp all the way to the finish line below Golf Course rapid. There will be no gates for this category.


Junior (Open category): Starts from above the golf course rapid on the river left with a seal launch off the 6mtr high ramp. To finish the race, the athlete must touch the banner on the rock in the left eddy below golf course. Each athlete completes 2 laps with the fastest lap time counting.

The fastest 8 athletes will qualify for the boater cross super final. Boater cross super final will start with the seal launch from the 6mtr high ramp all the way to the finish line below Golf Course rapid. There will be no gates

Women Intermediate/beginner (Open category): Starts from above the golf course rapid on the river left with a seal launch off the 6mtr high ramp.

Sprint down to “touch me” banner on the river right. To finish the race, the athlete must touch the banner on the rock in the left eddy below golf course. Each athlete completes 2 laps with the fastest lap time counting.

The fastest 8 athletes will qualify for the boater cross and top 4 for the super final. Boater cross super final will start with the seal launch from the 6mtr high ramp all the way to the finish line below Golf Course rapid. There will be no gates for this category.

Mass boater cross (for all): Athletes will start together from river right above golf course rapid. It will be a Le-mans style start. Once the start signal fires the athlete will need to run over, enter their kayak, put their spray deck on, and sprint down to the finish point below golf course on the left. There will be some surprises obstacles which will be disclosed on the day of event.


Rules for Pro’s category: Men & women

1. Minimum age of 18 years old
2. Athlete must be a solid class 3/4 kayaker and a competent white water
3. Kayak should not be more than 3 meters long!
4. Each athlete has to complete 2 rounds of the Sprint.
5. 90 seconds penalty for missing gates/obstacles (on Slalom).
6. 5 Seconds penalty for touching gates (on Slalom).


Rules for Intermediate, juniors and Women’s category:

1. Minimum age of 18 years old for Intermediate and women category.
2. Minimum age of 12 -17 years old for junior’s category.
3. Athlete must be able to Eskimo roll.
4. Kayak should not be more than 3 meter long.
5. Athlete must be a good white water swimmer.
6. Each athlete has to complete 2 rounds of the Sprint.


Games for Spectators –
Kayak, ATV quad bikes, SUP & river boards display and introduction sessions, throw bag contest, free GKF t shirts raffles, food vendors, movie nights, music, party, beach and much
